Offshore Wind: From Vindeby to Hornsea
The first offshore wind farm, Vindeby in Denmark in 1991, held eleven 450 kW turbines. Hornsea Two off Yorkshire now runs 1,386 MW from 8 MW class machines, each with a rotor sweep wider than the original farm.
Turbine ratings have roughly doubled every seven years, and 14 to 15 MW platforms are installing today. China has connected more offshore capacity than any other nation yearly since 2021.
Floating foundations are now opening deeper waters off Scotland, Norway and Asia..
