The Ten Largest Power Stations on Earth
Three Gorges in China tops every list at 22,500 MW, followed by Baihetan at 16,000 and Itaipu at 14,000 on the Brazil Paraguay border. Xiluodu and Wudongde, both on the Jinsha River, come next at about 13,900 and 10,200 MW.
Guri in Venezuela, Tucurui in Brazil, Wudongde again, Krasnoyarsk and Sayano-Shushenskaya in Russia and Grand Coulee in the United States fill most top ten lists. Every entry is hydro.
The biggest non hydro plants are Bruce Nuclear in Canada and Surgut-2 in Russia, both in the 5,500 to 6,500 MW class. Capacity records keep falling as China completes its Jinsha and Yarlung cascades..
