Gemasolar
19.9 MW solar tower near Seville, the first commercial plant to run on molten salt storage around the clock.
Overview
Opened in 2011, Gemasolar focuses some 2,650 mirrors on a central tower that heats molten salt. Its 15 hour storage tank let it deliver power for 24 hours straight in summer. The design became a model for larger tower plants in Chile, Morocco and Dubai.
