Tehri Dam
1,000 MW project behind Indias tallest dam, a 260 m rockfill on the Bhagirathi.
Overview
First units ran 2006 and 2007, with a 1,000 MW pumped storage addition later. Tehri regulates Ganges basin flows for irrigation, drinking water and peak power. Seismic zone engineering and the relocation of Tehri town made it controversial for decades.
