Overview
The Great East Japan Earthquake triggered a roughly 14 m tsunami that flooded emergency diesel generators, causing core meltdowns in units 1 to 3 and hydrogen explosions. Over 160,000 people were evacuated. Decommissioning and water treatment will run for decades; the accident reshaped global nuclear safety.
