Overview
Built 1931 to 1936 during the Depression, the 221 m concrete arch stores Lake Mead, the largest US reservoir. Seventeen Francis turbines power Arizona, Nevada and California. Over 100 workers died during construction, and the dam remains a National Historic Landmark and civil engineering icon.
