Kendal Power Station
4,116 MW station near eMalahleni, one of the largest dry cooled plants ever built.
Overview
Commissioned in 1988, Kendal runs six 686 MW units cooled by air rather than water in a water scarce region. Eskom fleet breakdowns have repeatedly cut its output in recent years. High ash coal and apartheid era isolation shaped its design.
