Taichung Power Plant
5,500 MW coastal station, for years the largest single emitter on Earth.
Overview
Ten 550 MW units plus gas additions came online from 1992. Taichung symbolized the tension between industrial growth and air quality, pushing Taiwan toward gas and offshore wind. Two units were idled in 2019 over emissions limits before fuel upgrades.
