The Geysers
About 900 MW operating across a dry steam field in Northern California, the largest geothermal complex on Earth.
Overview
PG&E ran the first US geothermal unit here in 1960. More than a dozen plants tap steam from a fractured reservoir. Treated wastewater injected from Santa Rosa and Lake County keeps reservoir pressure up, a landmark recharge project.
