Gezhouba Dam
2,715 MW run of river dam, the first barrier on the Yangtze mainstem.
Overview
Completed in 1988 near Yichang, Gezhouba pioneered Chinese large hydro two decades before Three Gorges rose 38 km upstream. Its turbines and ship locks proved the engineering base later scaled up massively. The plant still runs as the tail station below Three Gorges.
