Kakhovka Dam
Soviet era hydroelectric station on the lower Dnieper, destroyed in June 2023.
Overview
Completed in 1956, the dam held back the huge Kakhovka reservoir, which supplied irrigation, drinking water for southern Ukraine and cooling water for the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. Russian forces controlled it from 2022, and it collapsed after an explosion on 6 June 2023, flooding towns downstream and draining the reservoir.
