Kariba Dam
About 2,100 MW shared hydro plant on the Zambezi backing both national grids.
Overview
Commissioned 1959 to 1962 with later expansions on both banks, Kariba was the largest dam in the world by reservoir volume. Lake Kariba displaced 57,000 people. Drought cycles swing generation sharply, and spillway erosion forced major repairs in the 2010s.
