Nurek Dam
Roughly 3,000 MW station behind a 300 m earthfill dam on the Vakhsh River.
Overview
Completed in 1980, Nurek was the tallest dam in the world until 2013 and still supplies most of the electricity of Tajikistan. Its reservoir also feeds irrigation in the Vakhsh valley. The even taller Rogun Dam is rising upstream.
