Tarbela Dam
About 4,900 MW Indus River dam, the largest earth and rockfill dam in the world when finished in 1976.
Overview
Originally 3,478 MW, extensions through the 2010s pushed Tarbela near 4,900 MW. It anchors the Indus Basin irrigation system, storing monsoon flows for the worlds largest contiguous canal network. Sedimentation steadily consumes storage capacity.
